#14 This memorial is in Stone Town on the south end of Zanzibar Island,Tanzania. Construction on this church began on Christmas Day the year slavery was abolished (by law). It stands directly over the sight where slaves, captured in East Africa, were taken and auctioned. There is a marble statue imbedded into the alter floor, at the exact spot the whipping post stood. In the corridor of the church is a section in remembrance of where the slaves, to weak to sell, men, women and children were shot. Slavery on the north end of Zanzibar Island continued until 1907.
