Hill Complex
Great Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe

The Hill Complex is a portion of the dominant remains of a large city inhabited between the 13th and 15th centuries. All serious scientific, anthropological, archaeological and ethno-historical evidence proves that “Great Zimbabwe” was a product of the indigenous African, the Shona. The estimated population was from 11,000 to 20,000 at any given time. These ruins spread out over a couple square miles. There were different style stone blocks used to build the massive walls, fortresses, and foundations for this historical civilization. Taken just before sunset, this structure is known as the Western Enclosure and overlooks the city ruins below.
